We’re not suggesting Affinity switches to a subscription basis, but offering users an option to pay the $69.99 split across a fixed number of payments may make the software more accessible to a lot of people.
While $69.99 is affordable for such a powerful editing program, not everyone can afford to shell out $69.99 in one go, especially given the cost-of-living crisis and the rise in food & utility costs over the last few years. There’s also no option to pay for the license in monthly installments. However, there were 8 years between the 2014 V V2 release, with many updates in-between, so we think that $69.99 for potentially up to 8 years worth of the software is pretty good.

The disadvantage with subscription-free software is that you only pay for that specific version of the software, so in this instance, when V3 eventually comes out, you will have to pay to upgrade to that version from V2.
